Social Networking 101: Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter

To use social networking to best suit your needs, it is important to focus on your niche, or what makes you different from your competitors. Keeping this in mind, you can decide which, if any, of the social networking mediums best fits the target market for your product of service. When using social media to market your business, make sure you present information that entices the consumer to visit your website.

Facebook

Facebook is a great tool for businesses to reach a broad demographic. It allows you to create a company page where you can update your status, add pictures, create applications and much more. They also have pay-per-click and pay-per-view advertising. It also allows you to pick the area, age, education, income and other demographics of your advertising target.

Myspace

Although Myspace doesn't have the best format for businesses, it is an easy-to-use site with a large range of options including blogs, status updates, online picture gallery, videos, audio and much more. (Example) (FAQ).

Important Note: To change your Myspace url, go to Home and then there is an option on the top right of your page that says pick your url.

Twitter:

Made famous by stars like Oprah Windfrey and Diddy, Twitter is a great way to release information about your company in an informal setting. You can keep clients and potential clients updated on your company's success and changes, allowing for a more personalized client/company relationship. (Example)

Customize your own Twitter design with Photoshop templates from Twitter Backs, or online with Free Twitter Designer.

Important Note: To create your own Twitter picture, it must be at least 48x48 pixels but most importantly, square.
