Finding a Website Host

hostingWhen choosing a host it is important to consider the following:

  • Operating System: Windows or Linux operating systems are the two option for most domain hosting sites. The preferred of the two is Linux because it offers more options and causes less issues.
  • Diskspace Allotment - How much space your website has to hold pictures, videos, and files.
  • Data Transfer/Bandwidth Allotment - The rate, how long it takes data to be uploaded or downloaded from the site.
  • Number of Email Accounts - Important, depending on the size of your business and how many people you want to have personal email accounts.
  • # of MySQL Databases: The number of blogs, forums, and other applications that you can host on your site. The free economy GoDaddy host comes with 10 which is enough for a small business website.
  • # of SQL Server Databases: database server from Microsoft that you can use in conjunction with Web programming languages to create dynamic Web sites. Requires advanced computer skills.
  • You might decide typing in "best hosting sites" into Google and going with the top rated one but be careful. Most of the top hosting sites rank high on Google because they have a lot of money to spend on SEO optimization because they take money from the hosting companies to get rated higher.

You also might think about hosting on a free hosting account but we recommend staying away from free hosting accounts. The amount of information and lack of options are limiting and there are some that require placement of advertising on your site.

GoDaddy offers you with a free year economy account with the purchase of a domain name. It is a good deal, but there is a limited amount of things you can do with the plan. GoDaddy is not the best web hosting service but they do provide you with a lot of extras like quick blogcast accounts, email accounts, photo albums, and a starter/for sale webpage. GoDaddy is also user-friendly with reliable customer support.

Good luck hunting and do your research about whichever company you decide to pick as your host. Picking the right host can save you a lot of time.
