Creating a Domain Name

Domain Name Creating a domain name is a difficult task considering the limited number available. Try to make it:

  • Sticky - create a memorable name that consumers will remember. It doesn’t have to be your company name.
  • Include your brand, product or service if possible.
  • Easy to remember.
  • As short as possible.
  • When using more than three words, use hyphens: http://www.extreme-home-decorations-company.com instead of http://www.extremehomedecorationscompany.com
  • Buy as many alternatives (.net, .org, etc.) as you can to prevent copycats, and redirect the alteratives back to your actual website.
  • Don’t be afraid to buy multiple domain names to link to your page. For instance: a product brand, a company name or your name. Just don't link them all to the exact same page, such as index.html, on your website or they might be dropped by search engines.
  • Can't find a web address you like? Try adding "The" or "My" at the beginning of your website.
  • A common question is whether a .com name is better than the other options like .org or .net. For most, a .com is preferable because of they are the first to be searched by search engines but there are occasions where other names are more appropriate. For instance, a non-profit organization might prefer a .org domain name or a British organization might prefer co.uk.

For a cheap domains name try GoDaddy. Their non-premium domain names range from $1.99* to $10.69* and include a free economy hosting account. Don't forget to check out the GoDaddy Promotion Codes for additional savings.

*Prices vary depending on promotions and are based on the price of a .com for one year.
